On April 25th, 2024 (CST), the “Explore Mother and Baby Industry in China – Canadian Session,” organized by the Consulate General of Canada in Shanghai, supported by CBME, Informa Markets and Tmall Global, concluded successfully. The webinar aimed to facilitate a deeper understanding of the Chinese maternity, baby, and children’s market for Canadian brands and partners, enabling them to enter the Chinese market more efficiently. Over 30 industry professionals actively participated, with attendees expressing substantial gains from the session.
This initiative serves as a strong step forward for Canadian baby brands in China and highlights key opportunities for entering Chinese maternity market effectively.

Canadian Trade Support and Market Insights
Mr. Samuel Boateng, acting Senior Trade Commissioner & Consul, Consulate General of Canada in Shanghai, introduced the range of services provided by the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service to Canadian enterprises in the Chinese market. He also shared insights into the development trends of China’s mother and baby consumer market, along with the outcomes of the Canadian pavilion’s participation in the 2024 Hi-Creation Week earlier this year.


Opportunities Through Informa Markets and CBME
Ms. Celia Gu, General Manager of Informa Markets China (Hangzhou), presented on the Chinese economic landscape, opportunities within the maternity, baby, and children’s market, consumer demographics, behavior, channels, and how Informa Markets and CBME can assist Canadian baby brands in China in navigating the Chinese market, addressing many of their queries.

Ms. Nicole Lin, representing Tmall Global, Taobao & Tmall Group, Alibaba for the Canadian region, introduced Alibaba Group’s platforms including Taobao, Tmall, and Tmall Global. She shared insights into the characteristics and preferences of the consumer groups for overseas maternal and infant products, alongside the solutions and recommendations Tmall Global offers for entering Chinese maternity market.


Retail Strategies and Brand Localization
Ms. Jenny Chang, Founder of Tiny Travelers, shared her experience in promoting overseas brands in China through her venture, analyzing current offline retail trends in China and outlining the needs of Chinese retailers for foreign brands.


IP Protection Guidance for Canadian Brands
Ms. Xiaojuan Zhao, trade commissioner from the trade policy team covering IP protection at the embassy of Canada to China, educated participants on China’s intellectual property protection measures and guided them on how overseas enterprises can register their IP in China.
